Katanas have been said to be one of the greatest swords ever created. This is ironic since Japan has such poor materials for making swords. The iron of Japan is inferior by most standards and there is a relatively small amount to be found on the island. These factors meant that when a sword was to be made it had to be of the best quality. The sword smiths would labor over the sword and many believed that part of the smiths soul became a part of the sword.

This Katana was hand forged and crafted authentically in all aspects of its creation. 4,000 layers of steel were used over a hard high carbon steel core to create a sword flexible but hard.

The Katana includes a Wooden Gift Box, Certificate of Authenticity, 1 Extra Tsuba, and Silk Sword Bag.

Features

Blade: The blade of the sword has been authentically hand forged in the old method of sword forging. Through a painstaking process 4,000 layers of steel have been expertly crafted to create the blade of the sword. However, this is only the first step in creating a master blade. 1060 high carbon steel has been used on the inner core of the steel; to insure an extremely hard cutting edge. To insure a flexible blade each side of the core steel has been reinforced with 1040 medium carbon steel. This method of forging is known as a San'mai Lamination. Since one single flaw in the forging of the blade will destroy the entire blade, this precise method requires the skill of a master smith.
The blade has been further tempered by quenching the blade of the sword in spring water. A clay covering has been used over the body of the blade with the Ha (cutting edge) left exposed. The sword is heated in the forge and then dipped into pure spring water. The clay covering lets the body of the sword cool more slowly than the Ha.
The result is that the Ha becomes extremely hard, and the actual molecules of the Ha expand bending back the rest of sword giving the sword its signature curve. This is when the hamon of the sword is made. The body of the swords hardens in the quenching, but still remains flexible in comparison to the Ha.
The blade features a defined Chu-Kissake, Bo-Hi, and a Sanban-Sugi Hammon. The sword comes full tang and Razor Sharp.
Saya: The Saya of the sword has been constructed from hard wood with black high gloss finish. A black silk Sage-o has been tied around the bright copper Kurigata of the sword. The Koi-Guchi is has been hardened.
Tsuba: The Habaki is a one piece brass construction. The Katana includes two oxidized copper Tsubas. The mounted Tsuba is a circular cut out design of an eagle in flight. The second Tsuba comes in a collectors box and features a tiger in a bamboo forest. The Tsuba is secured by two copper Seppas. Two additional Seppas are included in the collectors box.
Tsuka: The Fuchi is blackened copper with a perched Eagle on a branch in bold relief. The Tsuka core is wooden with a ray skin Same and black silk Ito. A single bamboo Mekugi secures the tang in the Tsuka. The two Menuki are blackened oxidized copper created in the likeness eagles. The Kashira of the sword is a perched eagle.
