Item Specs

This is the massive hand forged Nodachi sword, or "field sword". The sword was carried by foot soldiers as a counter measure against cavalry attacks. The massive blade would be wielded by two men to cut the legs out from under charging attacks. However, by a skilled and powerful warrior the sword could be used by a single man and had the potential to cut both horse and man apart in a single stroke. During times of peace the sword would be carried by high ranking Samurai as a sign of status. Due to its length the sword would be carried on the Samurai's back. Although this sword was slow, in the correct hands the sword was unstoppable.

This is a reproduction of the massive Nodachi. The sword has been hand forged with all authentic fittings. This mighty sword is spectacular to behold and would grace any collection.

The Sword includes: a collectors box, sword bag, cleaning kit.

Features

Attributes of the Weapon:
Blade: The blade of the sword has been hand forged using the traditional six step method from ancient Japan. The blade has been constructed with a combination of high carbon and medium carbon steel. The high carbon steel is wrapped around the medium carbon steel giving the sword a hard jacket and cutting edge, while maintaining a soft flexible core. This lamination is known as Kobuse.
This combination of the soft core steel and hard cutting steel gives the sword an extremely hard cutting edge (as well as a very sharp cutting edge) while maintaining the swords flexibility. This combination of two steel types is called lamination, and is a painstaking process performed only by sword smiths. The smallest gap in the two steels can destroy the sword and smith has to start over again.
The blade features a double Bo-Hi (blood groove) for better balance and a audible feedback when the sword is swung. The sword has a massive tang to match the length of the blade.
Saya: The Saya is wooden with a black high gloss finish. The Koiguchi is hardened wood for a simple, but elegant design. The Kurigata is wooden with a black cotton Sage-o.
Tsuba: The Habaki of the sword is one piece brass construction held in place by a copper Seppa. The Tsuba is oxidized copper designed like a snake wrapping around the blade.
Tsuka: The Tsuka is made of two pieces of wood laid over the massive tang. A ray skin Same has been wrapped over the wood, with a black cotton Ito over the Same. Two bamboo Mekugi secure the tang of the sword. Two oxidized snake Menuki are on each side of the Tsuka. The Kashira is also oxidized copper.
