The Hamon and curve of the blade have been authentically created. The curve of the blade has been created as a result of the forging and tempering process. When the blade is quenched the sword is covered with clay, except for the edge of the blade. The blade is then heated and quenched in water drawn from the spring of Longquan. Since the Ha cools much more quickly than the rest of the blade the molecules in the steel expand and force the softer steel to fold back. A Bohi has been added to the blade to lessen the weight and give audible feedback when swung. The Kissaki is a medium length (chu) with a well defined Yokote. The blade is full tang and comes razor sharp. Saya: The Saya is wooden with a blue high gloss finish. The Kurigata is wooden with shiny brass fittings. Tied around the Kurigata is a black sageo. The Koiguchi has been hardened by laquering. Tsuba: The blade is secured by a one piece brass Habaki. The actual Tsuba is blackened iron with a sukashi (cut out) bamboo pattern. Two brass Seppas secure the tsuba of the sword. Tsuka: The Fuchi is blackened steel with a bamboo branch. The Tsuka core is wooden with Same (ray skin) and black cotton Ito. bamboo katana March 9, 2010 Reviewer: michael emler from san diego , CA United States   i purchased this same sword while ago as a  light duty cutter but i was so impressed with the asthetics of it that i did not want to do anything to ruin it so i bought a second one and it is now basically a display. have a couple paul chen practical series that were much more expensive and are not near as nice. it came out of the box RAZOR sharp (almost frightningly so) and the bag that comes with it is not the nylon crap that hanwei packs theirs with but a nice soft cotton.The tsuka is a little narrow for my big hands but i am sure that Kevin can make  a better fitting one for me when i get the $. the tsuka has gotten a bit of a rattle to it on the one that i cut with and the tsuba moves a little but that is due to the fact that i cut a lot. plus unlike a paul chen pratical you can take it down and change the parts they are not epoxied in Was this review helpful to you?

awsome January 2, 2010 Reviewer: Chad Coleman from Bryan, TX United States   this was a great buy. it came in 3 days when i ordered it. the only promblem is it rattled in the sheath and was hard to pull out but that was it. it had a real hamon and came sharp. this katana is a must buy for the price Was this review helpful to you?
