The use of brass in the Tsuba of the Katana began during the early Muromachi period and continued well into the Edo period. Due to the lack of brass in Japan brass was originally only used as inlay in a Tsuba. This brass was imported from Ming China in the form of coins. The scarcity of brass meant that only the wealthiest Samurai could afford even a brass inlay. The addition of the brass inlay in the Tsuba was one of the first steps in the Katanas evolution from a strictly functional weapon to a piece of art.

This sword is a reproduction of a Muromachi Katana, the newest creation from the Musashi forge. The sword has been authentically created in all aspects. The blade features a forge folded blade and comes razor sharp.
