The Sakura has always been closely associated with the Samurai. The Sakura blossom is beautiful but with a very short life span, very similar to the Samurai. There are legends of the Samurai questing after this blossom. They would go through unimaginable hardship to find the perfect Sakura Blossom.

This is a hand forged Katana made in the old tradition. The blade of the sword is forged by hand, full tang (with the sword smith's signature on the tang), and comes razor sharp. The Saya of the Katana is wooden with a deep burgundy piano lacquer finish. Two branches of Sakura Blossoms have been inlaid into the Saya with mother of pearl.

The Katana includes a Wooden Collectors Box, Cleaning Kit, Certificate of Authenticity, and Sword Bag.

Features

Blade: The blade of the sword is constructed from high carbon steel in a Maru Lamination. The Hamon and curve of the blade have been authentically created. The curve of the blade has been created as a result of the tempering and quenching process.
When the blade is quenched the sword is covered with a clay solution, except for the edge of the blade. The blade is then heated and quenched in water drawn from the spring of Longquan. Since the Ha cools much more quickly than the rest of the blade the molecules in the steel expand and force the softer steel to fold back.
The blade has been built with a high Mune, a shallow curve, and a Kiji Momo Tang. The sword smith has signed the tang of the blade. A Bohi has been added to the blade to lessen the weight and give audible feedback when swung. The Kissaki is a medium length with a well defined Yokote.
The blade is full tang and comes razor sharp.
Saya: The Saya is wooden with a deep burgundy piano lacquer finish. On each side of the Saya is a branch of Sakura Blossoms. The blossoms and branch are inlaid mother of pearl. The Sage-o is black cotton cord tied over a copper kurigata. The Koiguchi is constructed from bull horn.
Tsuba: The Habaki is a one piece brass construction with the double ring Musashi symbol engraved into the brass. The Tsuba is hand made of oxidized copper in the old tradition with a pattern of grape vines. The Tsuba features the cut out design reminiscent of the Muromachi Period of Tsuba making.
The Tsuba is Ko Katchushi style with the Kozuka Hitsu-ana on one side and the Kogai Hitsu-ana on the opposite side, each side represents the sun and the moon. The Katana is fitted with two oxidized copper Seppa.
Tsuka: The Fuchi is a scene of a Japanese castle. The Tsuka is wooden with a white ray skin Same and black cotton cord Ito. The Menuki are ninja with swords in hand. The Kashira is the same ninja in relief. The Tsuka features a single bamboo Mekugi.

This is my first katana so take my review with that in mind. This sword called out to me the first time I saw it on this website... perhaps not considered feminine in Japan, this weapon screams feminine beauty, the yin, but is in perfect balance with the masculine instrument of death that it is, the yang. After a thorough cleaning this blade's natural beauty begins to shine through. It does come sharp, but not razor sharp. Mine barely passed the paper test but it will roughly cut paper. I have cut several 20 oz. soda bottles without any problems. For the price, this sword is an amazing combination of beauty, form, and function.
