In Japan the dragonfly is a symbol of strength and courage. The popularity of the dragonfly can be seen in the frequency in which the dragonfly appears in literature, art and poetry. In Japanese mythology the ancient name for Japan was Akitsushima, or the Land of the Dragonflies. With this in mind it is no surprise that the dragonfly would appear on so many Samurai Swords.

Features

Blade: The blade has been handmade with high carbon steel, hammered out so that the carbon is evenly distributed throughout the blade for a consistent hardness. A bloodline has been added to the top of the blade to decrease the weight of the blade and give audible feedback when swung. The blade also features a kissake, a Soshu hamon, and comes with a thin edge already sharpened. This sword comes full tang.
Saya (Scabbard): The Saya is constructed of hard wood with a black high gloss finish. The Sage-o is red cotton wrapped over a bright copper Kurigata. The Koi-guchi has been hardened and painted black. A beautiful pattern of dragonflies have been painted on the Saya.
Tsuba (Guard): The Habaki is a one piece Brass construction over a Brass Seppa securing the blade. The Tsuba is a cut out design of a Dragonfly cast in Copper.
Tsuka: The Fuchi has been constructed from Copper with a Crane in flight. The Tsuka has a wooden core with a Ray skin Same wrap. A tan cotton Ito has been wrapped over the Same. Two bamboo Mekugi secure the tang of the sword into the Tsuka. A blackened copper Menuki rests on each side of the Tsuka. The Kashira is another crane.

This is a very easily handled katana. It feels well balanced and the blade is nicely finished and all of the fittings are nice and tight. Good value for the price.
