The art of the Bonsai has been a fixture of Japanese society since the 9th century BCE. It is believed that cultivation of miniature trees began in China as Penjing (or tray scenery) during the Han period. This art form traveled from China to Japan through embassies. During the Tokugawa period it was found that certain types of trees were better suited to the art of Bonsai, among these were the Maple and Azalea. It was also during this time period that the Bonsai turned into a popular past time of the wealthy Japanese elite, including the Samurai.

Features

Blade: The blade of the steel has been hand crafted of high carbon steel. The carbon has been hand hammered throughout the blade to give the blade a consistent hardness. A Bo-Hi has been added to the top of the blade to better balance the blade and give audible feedback when the sword is swung. An aesthetic Hamon runs the length of the blade ending at the blade's Kissake.
The blade comes Full Tang and Sharpened.
Saya: The Saya of the sword is wooden with a black gloss finish. Golden Maple Leaves have been painted onto the Saya of the sword and then lacquered over. A black cord Sage-o has been tied the kurigata. The Koiguchi of the Saya has been hardened with bull horn.
Tsuba: The Habaki is a one piece brass construction that secures the blade of the sword into the Tsuba. Two copper Seppas further secure the blade. The Tsuba is oxidized copper with a beautiful cut out design of a crane in flight over crashing waves.
Tsuka: The Tsuka is a wooden core with a Ray Skin Same and black silk Ito. Two bamboo Mekugi pins secure the tang of the sword into the Tsuka. A detailed oxidized copper Menuki decorates each side of the Tsuka. The Kashira is another copper construction with a crane in flight.
