I have no parents; I make the Heavens and the Earth my parents.

-Creed of the Samurai
Features
  • Blade: The blade of the sword has been constructed by forge folding, a style similar to the lost Damascus Steel folding technique. By hand the sword smith painstakingly stacks and forges individual layers of steel. This technique can be easily seen by the unique patterning of the steel on the blade. Traditionally this wood like grain pattern is known as the water mark. This blade has a subtle grain. This is a more traditional approach to Damascus Steel, the water mark is allowed to be shown off in its own natural beauty.
  • In addition the blade has also been constructed in a San'mai lamination. This process occurs when two types of steel are combined together; in this case the core steel and edge are hard steel (Hagane). This is sandwiched between two pieces of medium steel (Kawagane). This is a painstaking process that requires a master smith.
  • The result of this process is a blade with an edge hardness of 52 degrees and a back hardness of 48 degrees. This makes the sword extremely hard, but flexible.
  • The blade comes full tang and razor sharp with a defined Yokote and Kissaki.
  • Saya (Scabbard): The Saya of the sword is wooden with a blue glossy finish. A golden strip has been added to the entire length of the Saya. Wrapped around the bright copper Kurigata is blue silk Sage-o. The Koiguchi is bull horn.
  • Tsuba (Guard): The habaki is one piece brass construction over copper Seppas. The Tsuba is a beautiful scene of the hunter and its prey. A hawk perches on a branch watching birds against the back drop of waves. The Fuchi is patterned with a crescent moon and waves.
  • Tsuka (Handle): The tsuka is hardwood wrapped with a ray skin Same and blue silk Ito. Copper menuki are found on each side of the tsuka in the likeness of hawks. The tang is secured by a single Mekugi. The kashira is a scene of a full moon with waves and birds in flight.

Good for display and VERY light cutting. January 12, 2010
Reviewer: Dave Cotrone from Agawam, MA United States
After I bought this sword I took one look at it and knew I'd have to return it, the same is very unattractive and my sword was not single peg but only had one showing, instead of a bamboo peg the other hole was filled with a piece of plastic glued in and covered by the ito, the seppa were loose and the blade was misaligned with the habaki! It protruded about 1/4 inch on the back side. The blade was straight and moderately sharp but I couldn't get any sound from the bo-hi when I went through forms (I have never had this problem before in a bo-hi sword) but I suppose it would have made a decent cutter but would probably have been topped by the musashi shirisaya. As a final saving grace, this sword's fittings are gorgeous. Although the sageo was very thin it was decent and the saya was very attractive as well. I have never trusted cheap damascus swords for cutting.

In the end I bet this sword is a hit or a miss.
Either way it is a great display sword.
