Item Specs

During the Edo Period much of the restlessness seen in earlier periods was finally settled. This transition from the Warring States Period to a period of peace is most evident in the weapons produced during this period. As sword use became more and more obsolete sword making began to take on a more ornate look. The hamons began to look flamboyant and Tsuba making became an art form.

This is a replica of an Edo Period Katana. The Tsuba of the sword illustrated the dichotomy of the Samurai during this period. The tiger represents the warrior, the rose the scholar. Together these two symbols make the complete warrior.

The Katana includes: A Wooden Collectors Box, Silk Sword Bag, & Certificate of Authenticity.

Features

Attributes of the Weapon:
Blade: The blade of the sword has been constructed by pattern welding, creating a look similar to the lost Damascus Steel folding technique. By hand the sword smith painstakingly stacks and forges individual layers of steel. This technique can be easily seen by the unique patterning of the steel on the blade. Traditionally this wood like grain pattern is known as the water mark. The Damascus pattern is very subtle and not treated with any chemicals.
The blade has been forged in a Kobuse Lamination.
Engraved into the base of the blade a beautiful dragon has been etched. On the opposite side is a pictograph of a sword above kanji. A hamon runs down the edge of the blade.
The blade comes full tang and is sharp.
Saya: The scabbard of the sword is wooden with a high gloss black finish. Wrapped around the upper half of the Saya is a red Sage-o with a golden Kurigata. The Koi-Guchi of the Saya is black bull horn.
Tsuba: The Habaki is a one piece brass construction over a copper Seppa. The Tsuba is copper with a rose on one side and a tiger on the other side. An additional Seppa secures the Tsuba to the Tsuka.
Tsuka: The Fuchi of the sword is copper with a tiger in bamboo. The Tsuka has a wooden core with Ray Skin. Wrapped over the Same is red Ito. Two bamboo Mekugi secure the tang of the sword into the Tsuka. Two bright copper Menuki are on each side of the Tsuka and have been made in the likeness of tigers. The Kashira is blackened copper with another tiger in bamboo.
