Item Specs

The Ume (or Japanese Apricot) originated in China was later brought to Japan. In Japanese Poetry the Ume was symbol of spring. The blossom was so loved by the early Japanese that during the Nara period it was preferred over the Sakura blossom. According to Japanese tradition the Ume can be used to ward off evil spirits.

Features

Blade: The blade of the sword has been hand made with High Carbon Steel. The Carbon has been hammered out through the blade so that it has a universal hardness throughout the entire blade.
The blade features a black anodized finish and comes Razor sharp with a full tang design.
Saya: The Saya of the sword is wooden with a black high gloss finish and yellow highlights. A black cotton Sage-O has been tied around the bright copper Kurigata of the scabbard. The Koiguchi has been hardened.
Tsuba: The Habaki is a one piece brass construction. The Tsuba has been created in a Maru Gata style with a wreath of Ume blossoms and branches. Each blossom is golden against the gray branches.
Tsuka: The Fuchi is black steel with Ume blossoms. The Tsuka core is wooden with a ray skin Same wrap. A black cotton Ito has been wrapped over the ray skin. Two bamboo Mekugi secures the tang of the sword. Two copper Menuki are on each side of the Tsuka. The Kashira is black steel with another Ume.
