This is the handmade samurai katana sword type 98 Gunto replica with tan itomaki and green saya. Sword is detailed in the style of the Japanese Guntos carried during WWII. It features metal fittings and tan itomaki.

Features

Attributes of the Katana:
Blade: The blade is high-carbon steel and features a bohi.
Saya: The Saya has been constructed from hard wood and finished in a green lacquer with Gunto style brass fittings.
Tsuba: The Tsuba is alloy and is also made in Gunto style.
Tsuka: The Tsuka core is comprised of wood and features imitation ray skin. The entire handle is wrapped with tan chemical fiber ito. The menuki are blackened brass and the fushigashira are alloy in the Gunto style, completing the theme.

This is a very well made sword and sword case/sheath the reason it gets a 4 star review is because of the hardware on the sheath. It was glued on only, and in doing so it mared up the paint, also the hardware was loose and easy to remove. That being said it did make it easy to remove and refinish with a little work. Aftre you sand it down use MINWAX it will bring out the wood grain. Whatever color you use is up to you. I used MINWAX 210B Golden Oak and it matches the hardware perfect. Hope this review helps

the sword itself exceeded my expectations for the price paid, but the saya is deficient, has glue marks where the fittings were glued and moved/glued again before the glue dried. Also a small split at bottom of saya (sheath) wood where the lowest fitting was installed.
Do you have any touch up paint you can send me????

I wanted a Gunto as my Grandfather brought one back from the war along with an Arisaka carbine (sadly the sword was lost many decades ago) and intend to hang them on a wall together. Just a few months ago I looked for one and could only find them in the $300-$1200 price range! This one is 40 bucks and for what I want it to do it's great. You can cut with it if you like but IMHO you're better off spending $3oo for a decent Munetoshi.
