Item Specs

The Hwangum is a limited edition piece. Based on traditional Korean design, the blade is straight and the fittings are ornate. It is a fully functional sword and features a real hamon. The fittings feature ornate phoenix and dragon designs in superb detail.

Please note the sword is a factory second due to a wire brush hamon that runs along half of the blade.

Features

Blade: The blade of the sword has been constructed from 1065 carbon steel. The hamon has been authentically created and features a Gunome pattern. The Kalcut is medium length with a Midare-komi turn back.
The blade comes full tang and very sharp.
Gumjip: The Gumjip features a glossy black lacquered finish and brass Ip. The Ip, Garakji, Gori and Kut are brass and feature dragons and phoenixes.
Kal Jaru: There is no Ko geung Ee (handguard). The Kal Jaru is alloy with alternating gold and silver banding. The handle features a ring-style pommel with ornate phoenix and dragon detailing on the ring and at both ends of the handle.

I have searched, for years, for a Korean sword which was not just a version of the Japanese samurai. This is the most accurate version I have ever found ...bar none!!! It is razor sharp, and the handle is tight...not wobbly. The decorations are very beautiful and will not chip off. This Hwandudaedo is no joke. I am a master instructor of Korean Martial Arts for over 35 years. I recommend this to all SERIOUS Jang Gum experts. Not for beginners due to its extreme sharpness. I have one complaint. It does not "lock" in place when in the scabbard. It more or less slides out freely. This is dangerous. That is the only flaw I see with mine.
