This is the Lion Tsuba (Handguard) for Katanas. The lions, or shishi, have a long history in Japanese mythology. They are beautifully represented here on our tsuba. The tsuba has a signature (mei) and looks to be silver but is made from a sturdy alloy. Two shishi are playing in high relief. Careful attention has been paid to detail, giving this tsuba an old feel and an authentic look.
