This is a Reproduction of an Early Medieval Arming Sword. The Arming Sword was the sword of the Knights for 350 years. During its height of use a knight was considered undressed unless he was armed with the sword. Typically the sword was wielded with either a buckler or dagger in the opposite hand of the sword.

Even after the development and widespread use of the long sword hit Europe the Arming Sword was still carried by most knights. Where the long sword was eventually retired during the Renaissance, the Arming Sword instead evolved into the Rapier.

Features

Blade: The blade of the sword is 440 Stainless Steel with an unsharpened edge and very sharp point. A ridge runs the length of the blade with a fuller down half the length and a short ricasso.
Scabbard: The scabbard of the sword is wood with a dull black gloss finish. The drag and the scabbard throat are polished steel.
Guard: The guard is solid steel with a mirror polished finish. The design of the guard is an Oakeshott type XXI with gentle curve and squared quillons.
Handle: The handle of the sword is smooth dark polished wood. The pommel of the sword is solid steel in the transitional design of the late Viking period.

Product Title not accurate, but this is true of a good portion of the medieval swords on this site.
This product would be better discribed as an 10th-11th Centeury Norman Sword, which is the transitional style between the Viking Swords and the Arming/Knightly Swords of the Medieval Period.
Sword well worth the price. Pomel arrived slightly out of line with balde and cross guard, but easily fixable - scabbard fits tight.
Good for decoration, costume or ceremony.
