Product Description

The Munetoshi 1075 Competition Hira-Zukuri Katana Sword is a purpose built sword specifically for tatami omote mat cutting. Featuring a custom designed habaki by Jake of the Cutting Mechanics and specially designed blade, this hira-zukuri katana has been tailored to have the ultimate performance in mat cutting capabilities. This sword features a wider and thinner blade for better cutting performance and handling. The 1075 spring steel will endure regular cutting activities and resist bending.

*Please note that all swords can bend under extreme circumstances. Swordnarmory cannot be held liable for improper use of our products.

Designer's Notes: "These series of swords are designed and built with superb handling and cutting ability in mind, which is why I started with designing the habaki. Fractions of an inch or tenths of a millimeter have been taken into account in the dimensions of the habaki to serve as the heart of our competition grade series of swords. The habaki dimensions dictates how the sword handles and where the weight is distributed along the sword. Then the blade is designed according to the specific cutting purpose it will fulfill. How the sword flexes and cuts through a target are set by the dimensions of the katana, such as thickness, width, shinogi-ji width, and edge profile. Overall, I strived to design purpose-built swords that are tailored to the serious cutter, martial artist, or enthusiast."

Detailed Specs of the Competition Hira-Zukuri Katana Sword:

Blade: The blade is made in the hira-zukuri geometry with very tough 1075 spring steel which has a superior heat treatment. This is so that the user does not have to worry so much about the sword bending or taking a set from a bad cut, especially on denser targets. It has a thin edge profile with some ha-niku to help give some strength to the edge without sacrificing overall edge geometry. It has a longer and more pointed kissaki and comes in a mirror polish.

The blade comes very sharp and full tang.

Saya: The saya of the sword is wooden with a black high gloss finish and bull horn koiguchi. The sageo is black cotton tied over a wooden kurigata with golden shitedome. The kurikata is placed the proper distance from the koiguchi to allow the user to easily release the sword from the saya.

Tsuka: The habaki is a Munetoshi custom design from Jake of the Cutting Mechanics. All of the sword fittings are made of brass, with an elegant and user friendly tsuba. The fuchi and kashira are made to be as ergonomic as possible. The tsuka has very tight hinerimaki using black synthetic ito over genuine white samegawa ray skin. The menuki are brass and have a farmer and oxen theme.
