The Yuukyo features a Forge Folded Kobuse Lamination with a traditional geometry. The design of the Katana has been inspired by the swords of the Edo period. Swords from this period were as much status symbol as they were weapon, and some were quite ornate. The samezaya style of the saya and the elegant fittings hearken back to that time. The sword also features medium niku, so it's a stylish and functional piece that could've taken on armor then and would cut bamboo easily now.

This blades' medium Niku along the Shinogiji allows for heavier and harder cutting. The Niku keeps the blade thicker so the cuts will not be as swift and clean as a lighter blade, but the the Ha will keep its cutting edge longer. The sword is appropriate for heavy Tameshigiri with tatami and bamboo.

Detailed Specs of the Katana:
Blade: The blade of the sword has been forge folded using T10 carbon steel. The grain pattern shifts between Ayasugi-hada, Mokume-hada and Itame-hada. The hamon has been clay tempered and is Notare.
The tip of the blade is a Chu Kissaki (medium length) with a Kaeri-Asashi temper line.
The blade is full tang and very sharp.
Saya: The Saya is wooden with a black high gloss finish. It features a rayskin wrap. The koiguchi and sayajiri features bull horn. The Sageo is black chemical fiber in a Shigeuchi style.
Tsuka: The Tsuba is blackened steel in a moko shape. It features a hermitage nestled in pine trees. The Fuchikashira are also blackened steel. The Tsuka features double pinned Mekugi and brass menuki of farmers and farm animals. The tsuka features authentic samegawa with black Chemical Fiber Ito.

This sword is the perfect mix of utility and esthetics. The simple fittings add a certain air of elegance to it that most modern swords just don't have, and delving into details on the edge and cutting ability of the blade itself is unnecessary as the videos above more than accurately describe both. I'm a kendo player at heart, but I plan on using this for iaido eventually. For now, I intend to put it through its paces while perfecting my strikes on tatami!
