The samurai were always mindful that their lives could end at any time, and believed the most honorable death was in battle. Some devout Buddhist and Shinto samurai even had koshirae with religious significance on their swords, such as prayer wheel tsuba.

Our Kigan is a gorgeous and functional sword, featuring a prayer wheel tsuba, lion dog and chrysanthemum menuki and simplistic fuchigashira. It also features red ito and sageo as well as black samegawa. But it’s more than just a pretty face. The blade is one of our most time-tested and reliable designs, proving itself a fantastic cutter for tameshigiri. We have cut triple rolled tatami mats and mats with bamboo cores with this blade, and it has always proven itself.

Features

Blade: The blade of the Katana has been constructed from T10 carbon steel. The hamon has been authentically created and features a Gunome design with a prominent Nie line. The Kissaki is a Chu-Kissaki design with a Midare-komi turn back.
The blade comes full tang and very sharp.
Saya: The Saya features a glossy black lacquered finish and bull horn Koi-guchi. The Sageo is red chemical fiber.
Tsuka: The Tsuba is blackened steel in a sukashi prayer wheel design. The Tsuka features two smoked bamboo Mekugi. The Ito is red chemical fiber with hishigami underneath. The menuki are alloy in the shape of lion dogs and chrysanthemums. The samegawa (ray skin) is black. The Fuchigashira are antiqued alloy.

This is my third "Munetoshi" and my fourteenth katana.
I personally think that there are not other brands that offer as much as Munetoshi at these prices!
The hamon is well defined, continuous and very pleasant. The polishing of the blade and much better than all under $ 300 that I have seen so far. The geometry is traditional.
The blade is very sharp (I managed to cut plastic bottles (EMPTY!) And thick bamboo with the same ease).
The fittings are tight and well assembled, and the details of horn in the saya are very rare at this price.
What can I say again, if you find a better sword for this price let me know!

I received this as a bday gift from my wife and I was in awe taking it out of the box. The ito alternates correctly, the hamon is beautiful and sharp as a razor. Nothing rattles. Not even when it's back in the saya.

Customer service was exceptional as well.

I will definitely be buying more from swordnarmory.

the sword is overall real nice..hamon looks nice and even.the blade is sharper in some areas than others...butt the tsuka is cracked..i even aksed for it to be inspected before..owell..i will change my review when this problem is fixed..other than that i really do like the blade itself..just a honest review

This sword is a huge value for its price. T10 steel REAL HAMON and sharp as a razor. Cuts through tatami like wind through a cloud. Well put together, great balance. Excellent!

a beautiful but practical sword. the blade is balanced and will cut almost anything practical. it went though a plastic bottle like it was butter. the sword has a prominant hamon and is a beauty.
