In the study of Japanese sword arts, speed and precision are critical. Duels ended quickly with the faster, more skilled swordsman being the one to walk away. At times, two swords were used in unison; a katana and a wakizashi or tanto. Wakizashi were used by themselves indoors as Katana were not worn indoors. In modern times, Japanese sword arts have moved beyond the practical and become arts of exercise and meditation, helping the practitioner to hone their bodies, minds and spirits.

Our Musashi iaito is perfect for the beginning practitioner. It features real samegawa (ray skin), cotton ito and a lightweight stainless wakizashi blade. It's length makes it perfect for younger students or for those studying wakizashi and two sword techniques.

• Blade: The blade is made of stainless steel and features an aesthetic hamon. It also features a bohi which provides audible feedback when the sword is swung to ensure good edge alignment.
• The kissaki is a chu, or medium length.
• The blade is unsharpened for safe swordsmanship practice.
• Saya: The saya is lacquered an elegant matte black and features a brass-fitted kurigata and cotton sageo.
• Tsuka: The Tsuba is blackened Iron in the sukashi cucumber style Musashi made famous. The Tsuka features double pinned mekugi. The Same (ray skin) is crisp white, with black cotton Ito Tsukamaki.

This is my first sword and it is as i expected. The blade is superbe and i like the fact that it is a light and short sword, it make it easy to practice in a basement ;)
Only one complain, there is ( realy tiny ) scratches on the kashira and tsuka but it was easy to repair with a little paint. A nice wakizashi for the price.

Nicely made unsharpened wakizashi. Regarding the price, you may not expect to have the ultra-matching type of iaito concerning overall blade specs, but to get an initial feeling of sword-handling and kata, it will perform well.

The wakizashi is definately on the light side (balance point towards the tsuba), so its primary function is training of correct form, kata, overall handling (noto, chiburi, nukitsuke etc).
