Item Specs

The Cutlass was a vicious weapon used most effectively in the close quarters of ship combat. Originally the Cutlass was found to be an effective tool on the ship, quite capable of cleaving ropes. Shortly it was found to just as effective at cleaving through enemies. This was the melee weapon of choice for pirates, privateers and sailors on the high sea.

This Cutlass is a reproduction of those used during the high reign of the Pirates. The sword is built sturdy with a tough knuckle bow and leather wrapped handle.

Features

Blade: The blade of the sword is 440 stainless steel with a mirror polished finish, short ricasso and false edge. The sword comes slightly sharpened with an extremely sharp point.
Scabbard: The scabbard of the sword is wooden with a semi gloss black finish. The drag is a ball point style with an ornate design. A suspension ring has been added to the scabbard throat.
Guard: The guard is a solid design with a one piece construction knuckle bow and cup guard. The knuckle bow and guard have been bead blasted.
Handle: The handle is wood with a black finish. The pommel of the sword is an ornate capstan rivet.

The cutlass is very simple, leaving room for the detailing I will do to it to make it a personal part of mt pirate collection. That said, it is perfect and ready for display right out of the box. The metal work is smooth and even, the assembly is tight and well fit, and finally the cutlass fits snugly in scabbard with no rattling at all. This is important for me, as I will be proudly wearing your fine product at Michigan Pirate Festival in Grand Haven, and Michigan Renaissance Festival in Holly, for years to come

The sword is a very good quality for the paid price. It is light weight with good hilt stability. My only complaint is that I needed two people to pull the sword from the scabbard. Then I had to work the sword in and out (with much effort), over and over to ease the blade's passage. I even had to put some corn starch in the scabbard to allow for less grip and friction and continued working it in and out, over and over. I am happy with my purchase though and with continual use the sword should pull easilly from the scabbard.

it is an excellent sword with a fine level of detail. perfect for reenactment plays or for display.
