The Gladius is known as the sword that conquered the world. Although, the name gladius brings to mind the image of the gladiator, this is only partially correct. The gladiator used a variation of the gladius that was shorter than the sword used by the Roman soldier. This shorter sword was easier to use in close quarters, but it was also much more dangerous to use.

Typically the gladius was used with the scutum (square Roman shield). The sword was used primarily for stabbing strikes, but the sword was also capable of slashing motions. The sword was so devastating that during the war with Macedonia the soldiers of Macedonia were terrified of the sword after seeing the wounds it inflicted.

Features

Blade: The blade of the sword is 440 stainless with an unsharpened edge and sharpened point. The blade has been constructed with the traditional cross section rhombus design. The blade has a mirror polished finish.
Scabbard: The scabbard is wooden with a black leather cover. The scabbard throat is golden steel with two carrying rings. The drag of the scabbard has a cut out design with a ball point tip.
Guard: The guard starts with a steel fitting securing the blade to the handle. The actual guard is wooden with a light finish.
Handle: The handle of the sword is wooden with four finger grips. The pommel of the sword is also wooden.
