This Katana has been hand forged, and folded, creating a look similar to the Damascus Steel technique. The layers of folded steel can be easily seen on the blade. Every aspect of the sword has been created authentically. All the fittings and parts are genuine material. The balance of the blade is perfect and the sword is completely functional. The Katana can be used for kata, drills, practice and cutting tests.

The water used to quench the blade is from the spring of Longquan (the name Longquan translate to dragon spring). This spring is legendary in the history of Chinese sword making. Swords made from the spring of Longquan are said to be the best swords created in China. This spring is said to have magical properties. This might seem like fiction, but the abundance of minerals and purity of the water have created renowned blades for thousands of years.

The Katana includes a Silk Sword Bag.

Features

Blade: The blade of the sword has been constructed by forge folding, creating a look similar to the lost Damascus Steel folding technique. By hand the sword smith painstakingly stacks and forges individual layers of steel. This technique can be easily seen by the unique patterning of the steel on the blade.
Traditionally this wood like grain pattern is known as the water mark. This blade has a subtle grain. This is a more traditional approach to Damascus Steel, the water mark is allowed to be shown off in its own natural beauty.
The Shinogi of the blade is 45 HRC while the Yakiba is 57 HRC. This difference in hardness is achieved by using a hard high carbon steel on the Ha (edge of the blade) and a softer medium carbon steel in the core of the blade. This technique is known as the Kobuse Lamination.
The curve of the blade has been created as a result of the different steel used on the Ha and Shinogi. When the blade is quenched the sword is covered with a clay solution, except for the edge of the blade. The blade is then heated and quenched in water drawn from the spring of Longquan.
Since the Ha cools much more quickly than the rest of the blade the molecules in the steel expand and force the softer steel to fold back. This is the process that creates the Katana's trade mark Hamon. Due to the Damascus Steel the Hamon has a great deal of Hataraki (activity within the Hamon).
The blade features a Bo-Hi for better balance and a audible feedback when the sword is swung. The Kissaki is medium with a well defined Yokote. The sword is full tang and comes razor sharp.
Saya (Scabbard): The saya has a black lacquer high gloss finish. The sage-o is black silk, wrapped over a brightly polished kurigata.
Tsuba (Guard): The habaki is one piece brass construction. The seppas are copper and custom fitted to the tsuba. The actual tsuba is brass constructed in a Mokko Gata design with Sakura blossoms and a crane in flight.
Tsuka (Handle): The fuchi is a beautiful scene Sakura blossoms in a fenced garden. The tsuka is hardwood wrapped with a ray skin same and black silk wrap. Brass menuki are found on each side of the tsuka in the likeness of Sakura blossoms. The tang is secured by two mekugi. The kashira has another Sakura Blossom with a Pailou gate in the back ground.

Being that this sword once sold for around $800 at $150 this sword is a steal. It was some real weight to it and is real strong and stiff. The folded steel pattern and Hamon are barely visible but very authentic as compared to real Katanas (I have and early Edo period Katana). The only negative thing I have is the ito end knot is a little loose (fixable) and the polish could be better thus the 4 stars. This is sword only - no stand or kit (photos incorrect)
