This is the Shirasaya Hand Made Tanto.

Features

Attributes of the Tanto:
Blade: The blade of the Tanto has been constructed from through hardened high carbon steel. A bohi runs along the mune of the blade. The blade comes sharp with a full tang.
Saya: The saya is wooden with a stained wood finish. The saya fits seamlessly into the tsuka.
Tsuka: The habaki is a one piece brass construction that secures the blade. The tsuka is the same stained wood as the saya. One wooden mekugi secures the tang of the sword into the tsuka.

I am the founder of Attack Proof Inc. I have many expensive and battle worthy blades but as I pulled your company's Shirasaya Tanto out of its sheath I was amazed at the quality of the item. I also did a cutting test with it right from the box. I cut a 1" thick very dense foam exercise mat with it striking and cutting from the draw. I have tested other blades on this material and have had varying results, some of which were less impressive. The Tanto cut a path approximately 8" long and the center 6" of the cut completely penetrated the material. I can imagine how much better it would cut when I have it sharpened. Yes I know the limitations of this type of carbon steel...Brittle when striking "hard" objects but for cutting leather jackets and "meat" targets I feel it to be quite capable. Knowing the limitations I think this can be a good defensive tool which can be strapped to a back pack or simply carried when walking or running in secluded areas....JP

The blade came very sharp, however im guessing it was a longer blade originally that was rejected because the tang looks like it was ground to shape, not forged. also the steel is pretty soft, hit a bottle cap with it and it chipped. Good for display and would serve its purpose in combat, but over all the heat treat wasn't very good.
