The origin of the Spatha is one that has been shrouded in mystery and covers more than a millennium. The sword can be traced back to both Germanic tribes, and early Dutch tribes during the Roman Empire. Both the Romans and the Barbarians wielded the sword. After the fall of the Roman Empire the Spatha was still one of the most widely used swords in Europe. The sword eventually became the sword of the Vikings, although it is a mistake to assume that the sword was only used by the Vikings. The Vikings took the Spatha and made it longer with a more distal taper and point. At the end of the Viking period the Spatha had evolved into the Arming Sword of European knights.

This is the Spatha Viking Medieval Short Sword with Scabbard

Features

Blade: The blade of the sword has been constructed from 440 Stainless Steel with a fuller down the center of the blade. The fuller ends at the short ricasso of the blade. The blade comes slightly sharpened with a sharp point.
Scabbard: The scabbard of the sword has been constructed of plastic with an aged black finish. The drag and scabbard throat are plastic with detailed scroll work. The scabbard throat features a belt loop.
Guard: The guard is steel with the traditional arched design. The guard has been decorated with runes.
Handle: The handle is brown with a cut out pommel.

i was very dissapointed with this knife.The scabbard and guard are not steel like the add says.It is cheap plastic.The blade is the only good thing about this knife.I do like Sword & Armory and have bought some nice swords from them.I think they missed it on this one.
