The Hatamoto was one of the highest ranks a Samurai could achieve. The term Hatamoto translates to "Banner man." However, the Hatamoto were much more than simply banner carriers. The Hatamoto was a status that allowed the Samurai to have an audience with the Shogun. These were the most courageous and loyal retainers of the Tokugawa Shogunate.

Features

Blade: The blade of the sword has been hand made from 440 Stainless Steel. The blade comes slightly sharp.
Saya: The scabbard of the sword is wooden with a black high gloss finish. A black cord sageo has been tied around the wooden kurigata of the scabbard. The koiguchi has been hardened.
Tsuba: The habaki of the sword is a one piece brass construction. The guard is a black steel wagon wheel design.
Tsuka: The tsuka of the sword has been wrapped with black imitation sued over black imitation ray skin. The kashira of the sword features blossoms.
Strap: The back strap is imitation leather and fits over the end of the scabbard. The back strap can be adjusted with a belt loop.

First off i'd like to say to anyone out there, this is not a fully functional sword, nor is it meant to be, any stainless steel sword is a showpiece, as stainless steel is too brittle to work with swords, as long as you know this then there is no reason not to buy this sword.

The blade itself is very beautiful, has a nice edge on it and has the weight of a katana, as it should.

The handle is as close to authentic you can get at this price, however it looks and handle's great.

The sheath is beautifully done, somewhat surprising for the price.

The guard is very nice, in fact it exceeded my expectations as i did not like the guard in the screenshots.

The backstrap can be annoying at times, but it's not a good enough reason to subtract a star.

All in all this is a wonderful sword for the price, and as long as your looking for a mantle piece, i cannot see how you could do better with anything close to it's price.
It is truly a great value.
