Description Item Specs

The Akitsushima is a very light weight and fast blade designed to perform trick cuts and Nukitsuke. There is very slight Niku on the blade so it cuts very clean, however, don't let the light weight of the blade fool you into thinking the blade is not tough. The T10 of the blade and strong geometry insures that the blade can take a decent amount of punishment and keep on cutting. The blade is very capable of taking on multiple tatami mats and the light weight means that the cuts will be very swift. Nukitsuke techniques performed with the katana are very fast and clean. Double cuts are a breeze to perform due to the light weight of the blade and the thin Ha finish. The crisp geometry and geometric kissaki makes the sword perfect for display.

This is the limited edition Choji Akitsushima. Each blade features a unique Choji style hamon with full lobes.

We have a very limited number of these swords.
  • Blade: The blade of the Katana has been constructed from T10 carbon steel. The hamon of the blade has been authentically created and features a choji pattern. The nie of the hamon is very well defined with strong activity within the hamon.
  • The kissaki is geometric in a chu (medium style) style with a ko-maru turn back.
  • The blade comes full tang and very sharp.
  • Saya: Gold dust has been added to the gray finish of the saya and then sealed with a clear lacquer finish.
  • Tsuka: The tsuba is blackened iron with a sukashi style dragonfly and cat tails. The tsuka features a double pinned mekugi and a copper dragonfly menuki. The same is crisp white ray skin with a dark blue chemical fiber Ito.

akitsushima choji blue April 23, 2011
Reviewer: Mark McInerney from Seattle, WA United States
Sword arrived in good condition, and very fast delivery.
It is a very nice katana.  The tsuka is a bit small in diameter, but wrapped excellently.  The same is very white, very crisp looking.
The blade is also very nice.  The choji a little less prominent than I had hoped for.
The sageo appears to be the same material as the ito, but the color is very sharp.
The saya is very lightweght, thin in width, and feels very high performance and is a good match for the katana.  The mouth of the saya is not dished, and I was under the impression that it would be, but maybe I am just mistaken about that.  The color of the saya appears to be black, and the flakes to be silver, which is different than the description.  However, it is a beautiful saya anyway.
The menuki are a nice dragonfly design, very bright, but have an almost plastic feel to them.
Not as "fast" as I thought it might be when changing direction.  The T-10 is tough as nails.
