Item Specs

The Matsu (pine tree) stands for long life in Japanese culture. This is due to the pine tree being an evergreen, and therefore staying green year round. This was a very popular tree among the Samurai class due to its masculine appearance and affiliation with long life. The pine tree is the antithesis of the plum blossom in that the plum blossom has a feminine image and closely associated with the fragility of life.

The Matsu is a light, fast, powerful cutter that has proved itself to us time and again. The sword is fully capable of taking multiple mats, but is still light enough for very swift draw cuts and double cuts. This sword is perfect for beginning to intermediate practitioners.

The Sword includes a cloth sword bag and nylon carrying bag. The carrying bag features a shoulder strap and velcro pouch.

Features

Detailed Specs of the Katana:
Blade: The blade of the Katana has been constructed from T10 carbon steel with a bo-hi. The hamon has been authentically created and features a Gunome design with a prominent Nioi line. The Kissaki is a Chu-Kissaki design with a Midare-komi turn back.
The blade comes full tang and very sharp.
Saya: The Saya features a glossy burgundy lacquered finish with golden highlights and bull horn Koiguchi. The Sageo is black chemical fiber.
Tsuka: The Tsuba is blackened steel in a cut out sukashi design of a pine tree. The Tsuka features two smoked bamboo Mekugi. The Ito is black cotton over white ray skin Samegawa. The Fuchigashira are black alloy.

This sword is flat out AWESOME! And for the price it's an absolute steal! Everything was of excellent quality and came as advertised. All the fittings are extremely tight and the hamon on the blade is beautiful. Couldn't be more pleased! Thank you SNA!

Beautiful hamon, great balance, nice looking saya, tight ito, polish is like looking into a mirror, sharp as hell right out of right out of the box, carrying bag is a nice extra... and the customer service was always available to answer any questions. Very pleased with the performance and value of the blade.

Liveliest katana ever	February 28, 2011

After two weeks, the sword still continues to impress me. The sword is light enough to perform swallow-tail cuts, but has enough authority to cut very well.

For the Iaidoka out there, this would make an exceptional first Shinken for your Iaido training. I've seen Mogito from other sites that run three times as much that don't have the dynamism that this katana possesses.

For the backyard cutter, this sword is a lightsaber. It moves so easily that you'll have to be careful not to cut yourself.

Word to everyone, the ito is comfortable, but you'll want to replace it after a while, as it is pretty shoelacey.

If anyone is looking for a low cost yet functional katana, your search ends here! This is an incredible good sword with an incredible low price. I give it a 5 stars rating. I am glad to own it and would recommend anyone still searching for a good low cost functional katana to buy it.

This has become my favorite katana. The construction is top notch, the handle feels wonderful, the blade is very lightweight yet solid. The color in the blade is very beautiful. It has an overall feeling of top quality.
