Description Item Specs

The Matsu (pine tree) stands for long life in Japanese culture. This is due to the pine tree being an evergreen, and therefore staying green year round. This was a very popular tree among the Samurai class due to its masculine appearance and affiliation with long life. The pine tree is the antithesis of the plum blossom in that the plum blossom has a feminine image and closely associated with the fragility of life.

The Matsu is a light, fast, powerful cutter that has proved itself to us time and again. The sword is fully capable of taking multiple mats, but is still light enough for very swift draw cuts and double cuts. This sword is perfect for beginning to intermediate practitioners.

The Sword includes a cloth sword bag and nylon carrying bag. The carrying bag features a shoulder strap and velcro pouch.

  • Detailed Specs of the Katana:
  • Blade: The blade of the Katana has been constructed from T10 carbon steel with a bo-hi. The hamon has been authentically created and features a Gunome design with a prominent Nioi line. The Kissaki is a Chu-Kissaki design with a Midare-komi turn back.
  • The blade comes full tang and very sharp.
  • Saya: The Saya features a glossy black lacquered finish and bull horn Koiguchi. The Sageo is black chemical fiber.
  • Tsuka: The Tsuba is blackened steel in a cut out sukashi design of a pine tree. The Tsuka features two smoked bamboo Mekugi. The Ito is black cotton over white ray skin Samegawa. The Fuchikashira are black alloy.
  • Please note that specs will vary slightly from sword to sword.

Excellent customer service May 25, 2016
Reviewer: Mike from Springfield, MO United States
I'll begin by saying this is my first sword purchase.  I don't have the experience necessary to offer an educated review of the sword, but to say that I am very impressed.  I haven't had the opportunity to do much with it yet but the fittings, balance and feel of the sword are very nice.  What I do feel experienced enough to comment on is the level of customer service exhibited to me in the choosing of this purchase.  I gave the service rep a brief rundown of what I was looking for, price range, experience to date, etc. and this swor was one of four I was considering.  Given my beginners status she even coaxed me away from two other similarly priced but more expensive swords that I would have purchased, in order to get me into a sword that would work best for me.  Thank you and I will be shopping here again!

This sword really earns five stars! I just recieved it yesterday and I got to say wow. This sword is extreamly sharp and light. I can do swallow cuts with it with ease. The fittings were tight. I own quite a few swords and I am VEry pleased with this one.

As close to a Nihonto as you're going to get May 25, 2016
Reviewer: Josh McNeal from United States
I have owned a Valiant Armoury Kyoumou Tora, two Dynasty Forge Musha, one Cheness Moko, a Dotanuki, a Last Legend Tsunami, and a Hanwei Practical Light XL. This sword has a more traditional feel, balance, geometry, hamon, and saya than all of the others.  The ito is shoe-lacey, but is tight and comfortable. The tsuka is perfectly tapered and curves with the nakago. The blade is slender in width, but the mune is very thick, much like a nihonto. The bohi is crisp and well defined. The habaki is well-fit and exactly proportional. The fuchi and kashira are solid, and very Higo. They are slightly domed, and are much nicer in person. The same is of surprisingly good quality. The sword balances better than even the Dynasty Forge Musha. The saya is almost as solid as a Last Legend saya. The sukashi pine tsuba looks much nicer in person, as well.  Even Bugei swords don't have hamon this lively, all the time.  I have the Daisho with the Bonsai, and they are both the same quality.

Great Customer Service, great Sword May 25, 2016
Reviewer: Alex Bruestle from Vienna, Austria
First of all I want to say, the Customer Service provided by the SwordNArmory-Team is exemplary. All my Requests and Concerns were not only handled incredibly fast, but also in a very polite and courteous Manner. Unfortunately I have no Idea who I dealt with, but it was a great Pleasure and
I am looking forward to getting my next Munetoshi Sword soon.
The Matsu was exactly the right Choice for me. As already mentioned in various Reviews the Hamon is outstanding, the Fittings are robust and tight with no Rattle at all, Handling is great and the TachiKaze produced by this Katana infuses Respect.
Many Thanks SwordNArmory.
