From its humble beginnings, as a way to preserve a sword blade while being fitted, to a way to conceal a blade during the prohibition of swords, the Shira-Saya has been a corner stone of the samurai sword. More recently Zatochi (the blind swords man) and O-Ren (from Kill Bill) have made the Shira-Saya into a stylish way to carry a blade.

This is the fully mounted Shira-Saya featuring a mini tanto fitted into the side of the scabbard.

The sword includes a Sword Bag.

Features

Blade: The blade of the sword has been constructed from high carbon steel with a Maru construction. The sword has a universal hardness throughout the blade. The Kissake is well defined with an aesthetic hamon down the length of the blade. The top of the blade features a Bo-Hi, to lower the weight and give audible feedback when the sword is swung. The sword comes razor sharp and is full tang.
Saya: The Saya is wooden with a black high gloss finish. The Kurigata is wooden with a shiny copper fitting. Tied around the Kurigata is a black cord wrap. The Koi-guchi has been made from bull horn. On the side of the Saya is a holster holding a mini Tanto.
Mini Tanto: The Mini Tanto is Stainless Steel with a patterned steel handle featuring golden blossoms.
Tsuka: The blade is secured by a one piece brass Habaki. The Fuchi is steel with a border of Toyome, Shintoist symbols which means universe. The Tsuka core is wooden with an imitation black ray skin Same and off white cord Ito. The tang is secured by two bamboo Mekugi. On each side of the Tsuka are two golden Menuki dragons. The Kashira is another golden Toyome.

Low priced entry level sword	December 11, 2010

This sword is excellent for the price it's at. It's full tang and has two mekugi bamboo pegs as explained in the description.

There is a slight flaw with the the saya design. The blade rattles while it is sheathed, but not terribly. The mini tanto also has a tendency to slightly slide out when you drive the blade back into the saya. The saya seemed to be to tight at first, but after a little wear, the blade sheaths and unsheathes smoothly while the saya still holds the blade firmly.

However, I appreciate how the blade was constructed and still enjoy the sword very much. Overall, I'm pleased with the quality.
