Ito is the traditional cord wrap on the handles of Japanese swords. This wrap serves many purposes, as it helps to reinforce the tsuka, improves grip and is aesthetically pleasing. It also lends a personal touch to the sword, as it comes in a wide variety of colors.

This is our Tsunami Synthetic Suede ito in brown. Tsunami is a preferred ito of practitioners of Japanese sword arts because of it's durability, comfort, ease of care and aesthetic. Tsunami improves grip on the tsuka more than any other ito on the market.

Calculating the Length: The easiest method of calculating the length of Ito you need is to measure the length of your tsuka in inches. Then convert the inches into feet and add three additional feet. For example is you have an 11 inch tsuka then you would need 14 feet of Ito.
