Item Specs

This is a replica of the Japanese Type 95 Shin Gunto. The Type 95 Shin Gunto was released in 1935 and designed specifically for non commissioned officers. The Type 95 Shin Gunto was machine made to save on the cost and all blades featured a fuller. This reproduction of the sword was the 1945 version of the sword with a wooden saya and wooden tsuka.

Features

Attributes of the Shin Gunto:
Blade: The blade of the sword has been constructed from through hardened 1065 Steel. An aesthetic hamons runs along the length of the blade.
The blade comes sharp and full tang.
Saya: The saya of the sword is wooden with a dark brown finish. All of the fittings are antiqued steel. The single suspension ring allows the sword to worn at the hip.
Tsuba: The habaki is a brass single piece construction. The Tsuba is the traditional Sakura blossom design with two seppas securing the Tsuba to the Tsuka.
Tsuka: The Tsuka features a wooden core with an imitation ray skin same. Two bamboo mekugi secure the tang of the sword into the tsuka. The menuki are sakura blossoms. The kashira is the traditional tachi cut out design.

For the money this blade is great. Came sharp and after some extensive cutting I brought it back to a razor sharpness with little effort. Balance is good and it fits great in the saya, won't fall out when upside down but a slight tug and it whispers out. The saya is rather thin and the fittings on it are more display quality than functional. If the saya was the same quality as the sword itself I would have rated it 5 stars.
