Description Item Specs

Popular in Spain in the early 1600’s, the Cup-Hilt Rapier gave total protection for the hand. This defense on the weapon itself became necessary after armored gauntlets were discarded alongside heavier armors. The word rapier itself perhaps derives from the Spanish ‘’espada ropera’’, the ‘’sword of the robes’’ – marking it as a favorite civilian weapon. Fighting techniques of the time emphasized using an off-hand secondary weapon or buckler to deflect an opponents attack and to then follow up with a counter-thrust, often to the face.

This is the Spanish Cup-Hilt Rapier. It beautifully designed with connecting Le Fleurs around creating the cup hilt. The sword features a graceful, carefully tempered steel blade. The brass handle features a simple vented shell guard, straight quillons, knuckleguard, and Knight Helmet Head shaped pommel.
