JH-7201 (Munetoshi Kouken/Guardian) The Munetoshi Kouken (Guardian) embodies the spirit of the fierce Samurai warriors, who were the guardians of Japan.. The heavy shobu-zukuri style of katana blade was first introduced during the Kamakura Period in Japan when the Mongols first invaded Japanese shores. The swords first used at that time by the Samurai proved to be ineffective against the Mongol's armor, so a new style of blade was called for to cope with the new enemy. From the fire of war, the shobu-zukuri style of blade came to exist. The guardians of Japan now had a formidable weapon to help in their fight against the Mongols.
This sword is a very robust weapon and is made from through-hardened 1060 steel and features a traditional high shinogi-ji which is slanted at an inwards angle. This katana also has a heavy koshi sori (bizen) with a gentle kissaki shape. The fuchi and kashira are in Higo style, and the tsuba is a sukashi-style and is made from cast bronze. The seppa and habaki are made from bronze and the menuki is a long ken (Japanese straight sword) on the omote side and a long yajiri (Japanese arrowhead) on the ura side. The tsuka features black chemical fiber ito in tight hinerimaki and white samegawa.
