Description Item Specs

The Dao is one of the oldest swords recorded in China (around 3,500 years old), first making its appearance during the mythical Shang Period. The Dao was not used as heavily during the Warring States period as the Jian, but later found popularity during the Han Dynasty when Calvary played a greater role in war. Centuries later the Dao would come to play an important role in the creation of the Katana. In recent times the Dao has made a come back in popularity due to its appearance in Kung Fu movies.

This is the Handmade Qin Dao Dragon And Phoenix Sword.
Features
  • Attributes of the Sword:
  • Blade: The blade has been hand made from medium carbon steel. A double fuller has been added to the blade. The blade comes full tang and sharpened.
  • Scabbard: The scabbard of the sword is wood with a varnished finish. The end cap and scabbard throat are bronzed steel fittings. Another bronze fitting and suspension chain allow the sword to be carried.
  • Guard: The guard of the sword has been built with the traditional oval design. The guard has been bronzed to match the fittings on the scabbard.
  • Handle: The blade is full tang with a wood handle over the steel. The handle contours to perfectly fit the hand. The pommel of the sword is solid with an ornate phoenix and dragon design, matching the rest of the fittings.

It wasn't sharpened August 27, 2011
Reviewer: Tomas Kaser from Klamath Falls, OR United States
When I looked at this item on the site and it described it as sharpened I knew I had to have it. Shipping was was quick and easy and I have never had problems with anything that I have purchased here before. However, when the weapon reached me I was disappointed to see that it was not sharpened as advertised.

The dao. August 2, 2011
Reviewer: Jeff from Costa Mesa, CA United States
I'll give it three stars for the looks, thickness of the blade, and overall design.

The two missing stars are for the following:

The cap on the end of the scabbard and the cap on the pommel both fell off though. I had to glue those back on. And when I tried to tighten the bolt that connects the handle to the blade, the handlewood started splintering. I popped open the whole thing and realized that the tail end of the blade (that runs through the handle) was crooked. I'm not equipped with the tools to straighten it, so I'll just let it be.

I expected a little more from SnA since their pudao was totally awesome, but the "Qin Dao" is alright...

Very nice sword, unbelievable bargain May 27, 2011
Reviewer: Eric Ryan from Kansas City, MO United States
First a negative. The end cap on the hilt is glued on and  fell off right away.  The handle is held on by a nut.  Since the end cap was off, I took apart the hilt.  The tang is a full tang.  It's beefy - 1/2" by 1/4" for half the tang tapering to 1/4" x 1/4" until the threaded bit which is welded on (Tinker Pearce reports that's common and OK).  Put back together, tightened nut, glued the end cap, and good to go.  The blade is a nicely made blade.  It's semi-sharp (need to sharpen more fo cutting).  It is heavy, but this is one solid sword.  You just want to try cutting things with it.   The blade flexes and returns to true, and after a few minutes of sharpening (it needs much more), it made short work of the shipping box it came in and a 1/3" branch.  The scabbard and fittings are bronzed steel and look great.  The wood is African Rosewood and looks great.  If you want a bargain priced dao that'll work either as a wall hanger or light to medium cutting, this seems like a great choice.

You really do get more than You pay for March 27, 2011
Reviewer: Pavel V. from Jablonec nad Nisou, Liberecky Kraj Czech Republic
This dao is an excellent piece of steel. It is heavier then I expected - and You just have to cut something with it as soon as You get it in Your hands.
I ordered two pieces, one of them had loosened grip. So I detached the ending cap, readjusted the grip, tightened it with two nuts to prevent loosening and re-glued the cap. Everything is OK for now.
For those few bucks - excellent choice!
