Description Item Specs

The Tomoe is the ancient symbol of the both Buddhism and Shintoism. The three interlocked flames represent the circular motion of energy. The Tomoe is used as a symbol of balance and abundance of support in all endeavors. The Tomoe is also very common as a Mon (family crest) in Japanese heraldry. The symbol would often be used to identify aristocratic families in battles.
Features
  • Blade: The blade of the sword has been hand made from through hardened high carbon steel with a bohi.
  • The blade comes full tang and very sharp.
  • Saya: The Saya of the sword is wooden with a black dull gloss finish. A black cotton sageo has been tied around the kurigata. The Koiguchi is blackened steel. The Tomoe mon have been carved into the wood of the Saya.
  • Tsuba: The Habaki is a one piece brass construction. The Tsuba is black steel with a border of waves and Tomoe. Two Seppas secure the Tsuba.
  • Tsuka: The Fuchi is black steel with another Tomoe. The Tsuka is wooden with an imitation ray skin wrap and black cotton ito. Two bamboo Mekugi secure the tang of the sword.

Nice low price August 4, 2011

For the low price, this sword is decent. The blade is its best attribute: it is sharp, but does not have a traditional hamon.

Other con's include a non-curved, straight tsuka. Feels big, heavy, and thicker than other tsuka on higher-priced katanas. The imitation rayskin is also low quality and the tomoe symbol is faded on my saya as opposed to a clear and clean symbol displayed in the preview picture.

I'd recommend it for a first sword since it still has a fairly nice blade and it is rather low priced.

i think this is an excellent sword for the price, the blade is not the very strongest steel, but still good for machine-cut, very sharp and sturdy, gave mine some cosmetic work and now it looks like the zetsurin model. all in all a good sword to "play with" good for backyard cutting without having to worry about ruining a mirror polish.

The sword was as advertised but needed considerable refinish work, which I did.It is now razor sharp and mirror polished.Very good value for the money and I would recommend to anyone wanting a good serviceable sword

Excellent first sword June 1, 2011
Reviewer: Grasshopper from Charlotte, NC United States
This is my first Katana purchase and I  couldn't be happier. The sword is well made, lightweight and quite sharp out of the box. There is reinforcement around the scabbard opening which is a nice feature and overall, the sword is very solid and balanced (at least from my perspective as a noob). My buddy who is a little more experienced was also impressed and enjoyed the speed of it. I would highly recommend this or any other Musashi sword especially in this price range.

Great for the Price! December 25, 2009
Reviewer: Stephen Poor from Booneville, AR United States
Like all my other Musashi blades, this one is outstanding for the price.  It makes an excellent display/costume sword as-is, and with  a little work would make a good fighting blade too.  The handles on these swords don't seem sturdy enough for much combat, but after replacing the handle, you'd have the equivalent of a $150-$200 sword.
