Description Item Specs

This is the Black Carbon Steel Zatoichi Shirasaya Samurai Katana
Features
  • Blade: The blade of the sword is constructed from 1060 carbon steel and features an aesthetic hamon.
  • The blade is full tang, very sharp, and comes with a straight edge design.
  • Sheath: The sheath of the sword has been constructed from wood with a high gloss black lacquer finish.
  • Handle: The handle is the same stained wood as the saya with the trade mark three cut outs. When the sword is sheathed the handle and saya look like one solid piece. Great Buy! August 6, 2011
Reviewer: James from MIAMI, FL United States
I was skeptical of a 50 dollar samurai sword.I was pleasantly surprised upon inspection.First the blade comes out of the handle by removing the bamboo peg.The blade is a Full Tang.It extends through the handle and is very snug.Hanweii has a similar Zatoichi sword but the blade onle enters the handle a couple inches beyond the peg & is epoxied in to prevent removal. The blade comes with a decent edge, did now require much time at all to sharpen to a full razor.I flexed the blade a number of times & it seems to be made of very good spring steel, never lost its shape. If you look down the blade you can see the waves of a Hammered out sword.Looks loke it may have actuelly been forged. The Hamon is etched on & looks very nice.I put the sword to a punishing 2x4 test.Instead of plastic bottles and mats I chopped away at a pine 2x4.The blade did not snap,or loose shape. It even maintained a decent edge. The blade is an excellent peice of steel & this sword can be considered a Functional sword.

Such quality for this price, I couldnt pass July 5, 2011
Reviewer: Dan R from West Bend, WI United States
I got exactly what i expected for the price. its a good piece of work, not amazing, but you really cant to wrong with the price, especially compared to swords of similar metal quality. The handle i will eventually replace, the wood just is inferior and seems to only have 1 peg holding it (prolly glue too, though i cant say for sure) and the saya was a complete dissapointment. thought, from what im told, the saya is standard for all swords in that price range, so i wont complain. overall i gave it a 4 because of the quality for such a cheap price

Kenneth Sharp October 25, 2010

I bout this sword a week ago to test it out. The blade verry good fits tight in the saya but just resently the handle cracked on both sides. I'm planing to use gorila glue to fix it but if it still breaks I beleave I could make a new handle. but other than that its an awsome replica of zatoichi's sword. But since that handle cracked I give it a fair four.

Wonderful for a sword project. July 15, 2010
Reviewer: Viktor Kaltchev from Sofia, Sofia Bulgaria
The blade is very nice. It is sharp enough for anything you can think of except shaving of course. The straight katana-style silhouette is exciting.

On the bad side the saya cracked almost immediately. Both saya and handle have a very deep glossy lacquer coating which is slippery. I am thinking of adding tennis racket grip wrap on the handle and magnetic lock in the saya after it is fixed.
