Item Specs

The Boken is a practice weapon for the Japanese sword arts. This weapon was used primarily for sparring and kata training. However, a boken itself is quite an effective weapon on it own. In the hands of an experienced kendo master a boken can be just as exact and devastating as an actual sword. In either case a boken is essential for training in most Japanese sword arts.

This is the newest style of boken. The earlier problem of the boken slipping when the hands became sweaty (as they will while practicing) has been solved by adding a cotton wrap around the handle of the boken. This addition, although small, has changed many aspects of the boken. This allows for practice of drawing techniques and a closer realism to a live blade.

Features

The boken is constructed of wood with a dark stained finish.
The handle of the boken is wrapped in a black nylon cord, just as a katana would be.
The boken has been constructed with a high detail to replicate the look and feel of a katana, with a kissak at the end of the tip and a pentagonal spine and blade.

not a bad bokken and the Ito is a definite plus, but the ring for the Tsuba is too loose to be effective. I'd recommend a little tournagrip to replace the Ito and provide a little thickness to hold the Tsuba in place. Not as tough as I'd like it to be, mine has already cracked after just a little use, but I'm a noob and a little clumsy...

Great for practicing form without real blade,very solid white oak hardwood.Could also be used for sparring with caution,you could really do some damage with this bokken.
