Next Level of Purchasing a Sword

Purchasing a sword can be an interesting task for someone who hasn't bought one before. Whether you’re purchasing the sword for a beautiful display piece, part of a costume, or for the functionality of it, there are lots of things to keep in mind. Three of the most common mistakes people make when they are new at purchasing swords have to deal with their maintenance, display, and its purpose. This guide will help you along the way so you get the right weapon.

Sword Maintenance

If you are purchasing a fully functioning, high quality, steel sword, there are many things you are also going to need to keep the weapon in its best shape. When you purchase the weapon, you are going to want to make sure that you get a sharpener and a sword cleaning kit. Many times, people will put the money into purchasing an amazing sword only to allow the weapon to rust because they do not have the proper things to care for it. The blade is going to dull a little every time that you use it, because of this, you are going to need a sharpener so that the edge of the blade is kept in tip top condition. Also, steel rusts over time, whether it's from being used or getting wet, or from being displayed in your home. The moisture in your home can overtime rust your blade. The sword will need to be regularly cleaned in order to prevent rusting.

Sword Display

When purchasing a sword as a display piece there are also other things to keep in mind. Many swords have gone to ruin over someone deciding that a few nails hammered into a wall was a fine way to display their weapon. When you get a display sword, you will want to make sure that you purchase a proper display stand or wall hanging display for it. When you get home, you will want to also make sure that the display is properly put together and anchored. This stand will make sure that you don't have accidents, like a sword falling off of the wall and accidentally hitting someone. It will also make sure that the blade is kept in tip top condition and isn't being warped in any way. Even if you’re purchasing a decorative sword, make sure that you get a cleaning kit as well so you can keep it beautiful and allow it to be a great conversation piece in your home.

Sword Purpose

Most new time sword buyers have no idea what to look for in a sword. It's hard to tell whether the sword is a piece for decoration or a piece for use. If you are wanting a sword that you are going to use, whether it's slicing through a watermelon or for home protection, you will want a blade made from high-carbon steel and a razor sharp edge. If you are looking for a piece to decorate a room of your house or to use as a costume piece, you will want a piece with a false edge, especially for safety purposes. It's never going to be alright to accidentally cut someone because you've hung or are wearing a fully functional weapon. For display and costume pieces, make sure you have a proper display or scabbard for the weapon to be in. Not only will this keep you from harming someone, but it looks great.

Many Other Things to Keep in Mind

Remember, no sword you buy is going to cut down trees or slice through concrete, no matter what you've seen in the movies. You'll only end up destroying a beautiful weapon you've spent good money on. Never just settle on a weapon. Take your time to decide what is exactly right for you in looks, weight, and maintenance. Also, remember to ask questions of the person selling you the blade. If they don't have proper knowledge about what they are selling, then they could be taking advantage of you and trying to rip you off. Make sure they can give you plenty of information about where it was made and how it's been stored. Those things alone can give you a good idea of the quality of the piece you are getting.

In time, you will be a great sword buyer with the knowledge and experience you've always wanted.
