Product Description

In 1916 the M1916 steel helmet was introduced to the Imperial German Army replacing the Pickelhaube. From 1842 until 1916 the Pickelhaube was the standard helmet of the German Empire. However, the boiled leather construction of the Pickelhaube and metal spike proved to be ineffective in trench warfare. While the leather Pickelhaube offered adequate protection against sabers it was tragically ill suited to protect against shrapnel, and the metal spike made the wearer an easy target. In addition to the short comings of the helmet Germany's supply of leather was quickly dwindling and alternative material was needed to construct the Pickelhaube. In 1915 the French became the first army to issue steel helmets. In the same year Dr. Friedrich Schwerd began to study of the head wounds suffered during trench warfare and submitted a recommendation for steel helmets. Schwerd was ordered to Berlin and began work on producing a new helmet. In February 1916 the M16 was issued to the troops at Verdun. Due to the new helmet design the incidence of head injuries decreased dramatically. This is a replica M16 World War I German Helmet. The helmet is perfect for WWI enthusiasts, military collectors, and re-enactors. Constructed from 18 gauge steel, the helmet is a faithful reproduction of the original M16 and includes a leather suspension liner, leather head band and ventilator lugs.

Returns Policy

You may return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).

You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days).

If you need to return an item, simply login to your account, view the order using the "Complete Orders" link under the My Account menu and click the Return Item(s) button. We'll notify you via e-mail of your refund once we've received and processed the returned item.
